Mark 12:41-44

Purpose: Three things according to Jesus that you and I need to understand about Giving

Final Thought: “Believers should give generously because Christ generously gave His life for us and the Investment of the Kingdom is worth it.”

Serving More

Mark 10:41-45

“God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another." 1 Peter 4:10

 “Therefore, whenever we have the opportunity, we should do good to everyone…” Galatians 6:10

“The greatest among you must be a servant.” Matthew 23:11

What Does Serving Require?

1.    Know WHO you are…

v43, “But among you it will be different. Whoever wants to be a leader among you must be your servant…”

1 Peter 2:9, “But you are not like that, for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light.”

 

2.    Know WHY you are…here

v44, “…whoever wants to be first among you must be the slave of everyone else.”

Matthew 23:11-12, Jesus said, “The greatest among you must be a servant. But those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”

 

3.    Know WHAT you are…to do

v45, “For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

1 Corinthians 12:4-7, “There are different kinds of spiritual gifts, but the same Spirit is the source of them all. There are different kinds of service, but we serve the same Lord. God works in different ways, but it is the same God who does the work in all of us. A spiritual gift is given to each of us so we can help each other.”

 

“Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people. Remember that the Lord will give you an inheritance as your reward, and that the Master you are serving is Christ.” Colossians 3:23-24

Matthew 26:36-38

 

Sometimes God “sits us down” in order to “lift us up”

 

Connection Matters:

• Ecclesiastes 4:9a, “Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other…”

• Galatians 6:2, “Share each other’s burdens, and in this way obey the law of Christ.”

• James 5:16, “Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed.”

 

Intentional Connection

• Live on Purpose

  • Jesus purposefully invites Peter, James and John to be with Him.  

• Live with Purpose

  • Jesus purposefully prepares Peter, James and John for their own dark nights.

• Live for a Purpose

  • Jesus connected then, so that we might connect now.

 

“I am praying not only for these disciples but also for all who will ever believe in me through their message.” John 17:20

 

“LORD, remind me how brief my time on earth will be. Remind me that my days are numbered— how fleeting my life is.” Psalm 39:4

Gathering More

Revelation 21:1-7, Luke 4:16, Hebrews 10:23-25, Acts 2:1, Psalm 92:12-15

 

Faithful church attendance matters because: (Revelation 21:1-7)

·     It is increasingly counter-cultural.

·     The church gathered is the highest expression of community.

·     It holds a mirror up to the condition of your heart.

·     The resurrection matters.

 

You can increase your faithfulness in gathering by:

1.    Following the example of Christ. (Luke 4:16)

• Jesus faithfully attended the gathering of God’s people.

2.    Hiding scripture in your heart. (Hebrews 10:23-25)

• The biblical picture of the church gathered will pull you into gathering when hurt, fear, apathy, or fatigue push you out.

3.    Living out the biblical purpose of the church gathered. (Acts 2:1)

• Don’t miss out on the blessing of the work of the Spirit among His people.

4.    Celebrating the result of the church gathered. (Psalm 92:12-15)

• Individual spiritual growth, local church growth, and kingdom growth.

Following Jesus means being

Faithful even when it doesn’t make sense

Following Jesus means your “Yes means No” Following Jesus leads to an UNBELIEVABLE life

Salvation, Baptism, Small Groups, and Service

What our responsibility is and Why?

1.    Meet the needs of Children around us

 

“According to the 2019 Census”

70,000 people live in Christian County

25,000 of those are Children (18 and below)

5,000 Children living below the poverty line

Why should we meet the needs of Children around us that live in poverty … because when we do Jesus gives us credit like we did it for Him!!

Final Thought – “Hey Dude, Jesus Blessed the Children and so should you.”

Montel has served at Herndon Brounaugh Chapel Baptist Church, and associate at the Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Bowling Green, Kentucky.  Since 2017, Rev. Richardson has served as pastor of the historic First Baptist Church of Campbellsville, Kentucky. His ministry there has birthed H.O.P.E. Project: a multi-service, non-profit helping people daily through empowerment, education and enrichment. 

Pastor Montel is married to Etosha Cruite-Richardson; and is the proud Father of Montel II, Trinity, Ethan, and Gabrielle Elise.

 John 14:15-21

 

Together Key: Stay Proverbs 18:24b, “…a real friend sticks closer than a brother.”

 

What does it take to Stay?

1. Pick your PLACE

See John 14:15-16.

Matthew 18:20, “For where two or three gather together as my followers, I am there among them.”

 

2. Show some GRACE

1 Peter 4:8, “Most important of all, continue to show deep love for each other, for love covers a multitude of sins.”

See John 14:18, “I will not abandon you as orphans—I will come to you.

 

3. Match the PACE

See John 14:20. “When I am raised to life again, you will know that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you.”

Psalms 133, “How wonderful and pleasant it is when brothers live together in harmony!”

 Philippians 2:2, “Then make me truly happy by agreeing wholeheartedly with each other, loving one another, and working together with one mind and purpose.”

See John 14:16, “And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate, who will never leave you.”

PARAKLETOS – “called alongside”.

1 John 2:1, “My dear children, I am writing this to you so that you will not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate who pleads our case before the Father. He is Jesus Christ, the one who is truly righteous.”

 

The sermon will conclude with the celebration of the Lord’s Supper. If you belong to the Lord, you belong at His Supper. You are invited to examine yourself and participate.

Two observations from Matthew 16:13-20

1. Life’s most important question: “Who do you say that I am?”

·     The Messiah - The Promised Deliverer - Genesis 3:15

2. Life’s most important assignment: “The Kingdom”

·     Make Disciples, Take care of my Bride - Matthew 28:18-20

 

Final Thought: “Jesus is calling us to trust Him and when we do He is entrusting us with His Bride… and THIS is what brings us together with God and with each other”

John 13:1-17

What is a team player?

The way to be a Team Player

·      You understand your role.

·      You are flexible.

·      You welcome collaboration.

·      You have a positive attitude.

·      You hold yourself accountable.

·      You commit to the team.

 

Jesus was a servant of people.

The way Jesus served

·      Jesus knew His ROLE. verse 1-3

          - Romans 12:6-8

·      Jesus was FLEXIBLE. verse 3-5

          - Galatians 5:13

·      Jesus UNITED the team. verse 6-10a

          - 1 Corinthians 12:25-27

·      Jesus kept a POSITIVE ATTITUDE. verse 10b-11

          - Colossians 3:23-24

·      Jesus took RESPONSIBILITY for His ACTIONS. verse 12-16

          - Romans 12:9-11

·      Jesus was COMMITTED to The Body. verse 17

          - Matthew 28:18-20

 

Believers should prioritize serving the Church.

·      Serving imitates Christ. Ephesians 5:1

·      Serving uplifts God’s Kingdom. 1 Peter 4:10-11

·      Serving blesses the believer. John 13:17

 

God is already moving…How can you join God in what he is already doing?
