What does the Holy Spirit do in my life?
John 14:15-17
- The Holy Spirit equips the believer for righteous living. (Ezekiel 11:19; John 14:15, 15:5)
“And I will give them singleness of heart and put a new spirit within them. I will take away their stony, stubborn heart and give them a tender, responsive heart.” Ezekiel 11:19
- The Holy Spirit gives the believer an eternal companion. (Matt. 28:20b, John 14:16)
“And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Matt. 28:20b
Παράκλητος (Parakletos) – Advocate, Helper
- The Holy Spirit reveals truth to the believer. (John 14:17, 16:13-15; 1 Cor. 2:10)
God has not given the deep things to the smarter people; God has given the deep things to the eager people. – Matt Chandler
Final Thought: The Holy Spirit enables you to walk with God. If you’re not walking with Him, you need to receive Him!

How do I know I have the Holy Spirit?
Romans 8:9-17 and Galatians 5:22-23
Ephesians 1:13-14, “…when you believed in Christ, he identified you as his own by giving you the Holy Spirit, whom he promised long ago. The Spirit is God’s guarantee that he will give us the inheritance he promised…”
How do you know you have the Holy Spirit?
LIFE See v10-11
Jesus and the Holy Spirit at Work:
What Jesus did was to kill the power of sin/death.
What the Holy Spirit did was to give life to the already dead.
DEATH See v12-13
“Always be killing sin, or sin will always be killing you." - John Owen
1 Peter 5:8, “Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour.”
BETTER LIFE See v15-17
LOOK More Like Your Father
“…you received God’s Spirit when he adopted you as his own children. Now we call him Abba Father.”
LISTEN More to Your Father

LOVE more Like Your Father
See v17, glory / suffering
“The Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.” - Galatians 5:22-23
Final Thought:
What we want from the Holy Spirit is Fantastic, Spectacular, Inexplicable, even Magical … What God wants is the Holy Spirit to empower you be faithful, surrendered, empowered, ever more like him.

Who is the Holy Spirit?
Genesis 1:2 & 26, John 3:6-8, Romans 8:1-4
- The Holy Spirit is God. (Genesis 1:2 & 26)
- The active presence of God.
- The revealer of God’s grace.
- The giver of true life in Christ.
- How do we “flesh out” an understanding of the Holy Spirit? (John 3:6-8)
- God the Father: He created your skin.
- God the Son: He saved your skin.
- God the Spirit: He gets under your skin.
Key thought: The Holy Spirit is the indwelling presence of God in the person of the believer.
- So what does this mean for you? (Romans 8:1-4)
When you are alive in Christ and led by the Spirit you begin to:
- …see what God sees.
- …hear what God hears.
- …say what God says.
- …go where God wants you to go.
Final Thought: The power of a Spirit led life is one in which you follow in being an active presence of God, a revealer of God’s grace, and a giver of true life in Christ.

…you can find blessing in the struggle now. (James 1:2-4)
Because Heaven is a place where believers will be in the presence of Christ… (1 Peter 1:8-9)
…you can abide in Christ now. (Colossians 3:1-4)
Working for Christ

Abiding in Christ

How do you find rest, blessing in the struggle, and assurance? Only in Christ.
Final Thought: The realties of Heaven should make a difference in your life now.

- Heaven is the “Wow”of Worship. (Heb. 12:22)
- Heaven is not an endless, boring church service.
- Heaven is the warmth of together. (Heb. 12:23)
- Heaven is not the eternal place of “me.”
- Heaven is the welcome of Jesus. (Heb. 12:24)

“I have come down from heaven.” - John 6:38
What can we know?
Heaven is … For Real People
v32, “all the nations”.
See Romans 2:6-9
Hebrews 9:27, “And just as each person is destined to die once and after that comes judgment,”
Key question: Who are we?
Genesis 2:7, “Then the LORD God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.”
We are Dust and Breath.
We are the Same but Different.
Heaven is … A Real Place
v34,“…inherit the Kingdom prepared for you…”
Key Question: Where are we? (See John 14:1-3)
Three Places: Eden, Earth, New Earth(See Revelation 21)
We live in the “in-between”.
Heaven is … A Real Choice
v35-36 “…me…me…me…me…me…me.”
Who is “the ‘me’ in the middle of it all?”
- v31, “Son of man…”
- v34, “King…”
- v37, “Lord…”
Key Question: Who is Jesus?
Final Thought: If there is no Jesus in your life, there will be no heaven; But if you know Jesus in this life, you will know Jesus in heaven.

How does the Kingdom grow?
Matthew 13:31-32, 8:1-4, & 1 Peter 4:8-9
1. Kingdom growth is rooted in the Church but happens primarily in the home. (Matthew 13:31-32)
- Home is ______________.
2. Your home should be a place that proclaims,“Jesus is who He says He is.” (Matthew 8:1-4)
- Hospitality is ground zero for the Christian faith.
3. You can grow God’s Kingdom by simply practicing hospitality. (1 Peter 4:8-9)
- Be inviting.
- Be welcoming.
- Gather around the table.
Final Thought: Christ-centered homes grow the Kingdom of God when we bring others to the table.

Your actions don’t qualify your membership, but they do demonstrate your citizenship! (Mark 1:15; Col. 3:15-17)
3. How do I start living in the Kingdom of God? By risking all I am to spread it. (Matt. 28:19-20; Phil. 3:7-11)

The Kingdom of God: Living for the King
“Where is the Kingdom?”
Matthew 4:17
Where is the Kingdom?
(1) It is Here and Now
v17b, “Repent of your sins and turn to God, for the Kingdom of Heaven is near.”(see also Matthew 3:2)
Genesis 1:26, “Then God said, “Let us make human beings in our image, to be like us. They will reign over the fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, the livestock, all the wild animals on the earth, and the small animals that scurry along the ground.”
(2) It is in Christ
v17b, “Repent of your sins and turn to God, for the Kingdom of Heaven is near.”
(3) It is in Community
See Matthew 4:18f.
Matthew 18:20, “For where two or three gather together as my followers, I am there among them.”
Hebrews 10:25, “Let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near.”
Final thought:
Jesus was inviting people into the Kingdom.
- The Kingdom is here and now
- The Kingdom is in Christ
- The Kingdom is in Community
